What Does A Seahorse Eat ?

Seahorse is a true fish just like the goldfish. It has a thick yellow colored body and also contains yellow spines all round its stomach. It is further characterized by its long and curly tail. Seahorse is known to have a tube shaped mouth and a thin, long fin with a pointed little head. They are known so due to the shape of the heads.


There are several different features and characteristics about seahorse that makes it a distinct fish from the league. Every single creature on earth is distinct in terms of their habitat, their eating habits and reproduction. As far as the eating habits of a seahorse are concerned, they feed on the small crustaceans that are found floating in water or otherwise crawling on its bottom. They are known to exhibit great patience and camouflage as the seahorses trap their prey that is usually found floating within their striking range. They love small crustaceans and mysid shrimp, but some of them have also been observed consuming several other kinds of the invertebrates and also the larval fish.

Seahorses are known to suck food up into the tube shaped mouth that they have just because they do not have any teeth. They are capable of eating up to 3,500 shrimps a day. Seahorses swallow the whole food when it intends eating their prey. During this, a loud sound is made that can be heard even from a long distance. Some of the other things that seahorses eat include guppy fry, side swimmers, copepods, shrimp, chameleon shrimp and many more.
