What Do Ducks Eat ?

Feeding your pet duck with the right kind of food is crucial for its survival. Ducks can survive on vegetarian and non vegetarian food. Providing your favorite pets with a habitat that is almost similar to their natural habitation could be absolutely perfect to increase their life span. You need not take time out of your busy schedule to feed them. They can take care of their eating patterns provided you create a habitat which is natural to them. A pond having many small fishes surrounded by lush greenery would be ideal for ducks.

If you cannot provide them with such an environment due to lack of space, you can always feed them with appropriate foods to keep them healthy. Ducks are known to munch on grasses and small leaves that grow around the pond. Aquatic foods also form a very important part of their diet. Do not be surprised if your ducks start munching the grasses in your lawn or garden.

Ducks are non vegetarians as well. They relish small fishes, worms and other aquatic animals. You can enrich your pond with tiny fishes. These fishes help maintain the balance of the ecosystem as well. Ducks also consume insects, mollusks, toads, frogs, etc.

You can feed them with bread, but remember to maintain a proper balance between different foods. Feeding your duck an excess of any of the aforementioned foods will make your pet unhealthy and obese. The risk of liver and heart diseases are extremely high in such cases. Precaution is a must.
