Some cockatoo breeder pairs are poor parents and hence, they do not incubate their eggs properly. Some of them break the eggs or eat them before they hatch; others bury them and abandon the eggs. Some of them even kill the chicks when they are born. In these cases, the owners can protect the eggs by pulling it away from the cage and hatch them by artificial incubation.

Natural incubation is any day better and it should go on for two weeks. Check how the breeder pair handles the eggs. If the egg is not being properly taken care off, then you need to shift it to the artificial incubator.

Remove the eggs from the nest box as soon as it is laid. Place it in a slightly elevated air cell. Prevent vibration by placing the larger end on a single gauze pad. You can choose an indicator for hatching the exotic birds’ eggs or parrot eggs for this process.

You should be able to control temperature and humidity accurately. Keep the temperature at 99.3 degrees. Humidity value should be 40% – 50%. Place the larger eggs at the lower end of the scale, while the smaller ones should be placed at the higher end.

You also need to set the indicator to rotate the eggs automatically every 1 – 2 hours. Since many indicators do not rotate a whole circle, you may have to rate 180 degrees using your hand everyday. Check the eggs for cracks, dead embryos or any other abnormalities. When the eggs are about to hatch, shift them to the hatcher, and wait for 2 to 3 days. You need to maintain high humidity levels at this stage.
