Global warming has been having multiple effects in the polar bear's habitat worldwide. The arctic ice and polar ice caps have been melting because of global warming patterns. The polar bears are only adapted to live in these regions where there is snow and ice. Also, due to the melting ice, lots of fish and other animals are migrating to colder waters.

The polar bear is moving away to the interiors in search of territories to live and also food to eat. Also, the increasing temperature is bad for this species of bear. The polar bears also have been dying of starvation as they are not able to find food easily anymore. The problem with the bears is that they cannot be bred in captivity either because they need the extreme temperatures to survive.

Global warming is also causing the ocean levels to increase and several polar bears are drowning. The polar bears are very good swimmers yet they cannot swim for long distances like the sea animals.

However, scientists are unable to determine how many polar bears live in the world. They are too difficult to be identified and some of them live in places where the humans cannot reach. The estimate is that nearly half the population of polar bears lives in Canada.

Right now the polar bear has not been officially added to the list of endangered animals but the scientists are strongly suggesting that the World Wildlife Federation should add them to the list. The estimate as of today is that there could be only 22,000 of them left in the world.
